At Beyond the Watford Gap I will be exploring the North/South divide from every angle and providing opinion on the divide in the past, present and future. My starting point for this topic is that a North/South divide does exist, but how can it be defined in 2013? Is it economics, culture, geography or a combination of the three?
The topics discussed will be as diverse as economic issues, the historical reasons for the existence of the divide and the ways we can bridge the gap. Along with less serious topics such as; why can't you get gravy at southern chippies, the famed northern sense of humour and the perceived unfriendliness of southerners. But the overarching aim of Beyond the Watford Gap is to provide information and push the North/South divide issue towards being a real talking pointI also want to say that this blog will not discuss the North/South divide in the traditional manner (Northern England V Southern England). This is because I feel that this definition is obsolete and that the real divide is between the London/South East region and the rest of the UK.
This debate is too important to sweep under the carpet and I actively seek the thoughts and opinions of others in order to start a conversation and re energise the debate; albeit in a small way. "every little helps" says the Tesco advert and my God, who can you trust to give sound advice if not a multinational corporation!
